SP PNG Hunters halfback Watson Boas is set to miss Sunday’s round 22 Q-Cup match with the Tweed Heads Seagulls after injuring his right shoulder against Souths Logan Magpies in Brisbane.
The 23-year old, who has played all games for the Hunters this season, went down early in the second half clutching his shoulder with play held up as trainers attended to him.
Boas stayed on the field despite the injury and finished the game.
Boas arrived at Jackson Airport yesterday with his arm in a sling and had the shoulder X-rayed last night.
“Watson’s injury is a major concern for us right now,” coach Michael Marum said.
“We’ll just have to wait for the assessment by our medical team. I’m not too sure if he is going to play this weekend.
“If we lose Watson for this weekend, we have cover there, we can always bring Charlie Simon in and then bring in another utility player like Gahuna Silas onto the bench.
“But we’ll just have to wait and see if Watson’s injury is a major one depending on the X-ray then he’ll be omitted from the side.
“We’ll have to allow him to full recover before we bring back,” Marum said.
Marum added that two players, Moses Meninga and Charlie Simon, had been put on report for a dangerous throw and he would know by today what the QRL judiciary had decided on their charges.
On a brighter note, Marum commended his men’s defensive effort against the Magpies despite an error-ridden game.
“We had to win that game against the Magpies to get into the top six,” Marum said.
“There were a lot of errors during the game but I thought we defended well all throughout.
“We’ve been focusing on our defence over the past four weeks and in the last four games we’ve allowed the opposition to score not more than two tries so I’m happy with that.”
In other welcomed news, suspended back-rower Rhadley Brawa is available for selection this weekend’s clash after serving a three-week ban.
