Bomal eyes title defence as Chimbu gears up to host bodybuilding champs

CHIMBU is gearing to stage the 27th National Bodybuilding Championships in Kundiawa this weekend.
Chimbu Bodybuilding Association coordinator and reigning champion Steve Bomal said the event would be staged at Kundiawa Lutheran Day Secondary School hall from Friday.
He said Chimbu Governor Michael Dua was the major sponsor of the championships, but business houses were encouraged teams in the provinces they operation in.
“I am training hard to defend my title,” Bomal said.
Bomal said Thomas Trukai, Geoff Turi and Drake Agiwa Jr were part of the provincial team.
Papua New Guinea Bodybuilding Federation secretary Alphonse Benny said Chimbu, Goroka, Jiwaka, Morobe, National Capital District, Buka, Lihir, Kimbe, East New Britain and Mt Hagen had confirmed their participation.
He said following the end of the championships, a national bodybuilding squad would be named to prepare for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in 2023.
Benny said a Mr PNG and Miss PNG would also be named.
The weight divisions for men to compete are 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg, 90-plus kilos and masters. Women will compete in the 55kg and 55-plus kilos while juniors will only see boys competing in Under-20 kilos.
“All winners will pose for Mr PNG and Miss PNG, however, all participating associations must pay a compulsory fee of K200 before the weigh-in on Friday,” Benny said.
