Bomana comp called off, field deemed unsafe

BOMANA offseason will be on hold for the next two weeks after recent heavy rain left the Police College flooded.
The Bomana offseason which was supposed to have started last weekend after a two-week break for Christmas and New Year and the NCD Governor’s Cup but with continuous rain over the weekend, officials were forced to call off round six games and defer them to the middle of the month to give the field time to dry.
Interim competition president Jacob Pikip said rain over the weekend left the field with debris and was very muddy.
“Player safety is important so we won’t have any games until the field is dry and cleared of rubbish,” Pikip said.
“There won’t be any washout games this weekend either because the field is still not safe use.”
Pikip said most players were students and with the first term approaching he did not want to allow games on an unsafe field.
“Students will be back at school and we would like to finish it early but the wet season is affecting our competition,” he said.
Pikip said the competition would have their finals in the first week of the March.
Meanwhile, Pikip urged the clubs to register so they would not face sanctions if they made the finals.
Pikip said the competition was one of the biggest with 12 women’s teams and 40 men’s teams.
Pikip said only 15 teams had registered and he appealed to the other sides to follow suit.
He said the two-week break was ample time to look for registration funds as clubs had been allowed to compete over the opening five rounds.
“Fifteen clubs are eligible to continue the games and if the other clubs do not register then we could have a smaller competition,” Pikip said.
Pikip said registration enquiries and other details about the competition could be obtained from him on 72069730.
