THIS is a reference to the report “Nauga writes book on clan’s place of origin” (The National Dec 28).
Borana Nauga wrote the book based on his grandmother’s story about Taboro history and focused mainly on the identification of land and how to settle disputes.
The Taboro people disagree with the book because Nauga did not taken the views of other Taboro people.
Taboro native tongue speakers have different clans who have elders and chiefs with their own tumbuna (traditional) stories about their history and origins.
One person writing a book for a tribe on his own views based on his grandmother’s story is not representing the views of the different clans that come under the tribe.
This book is misleading and will mislead people trying to identify their land and will eventually cause disharmony among people in the villages in Taboro, Rigo.
Young Taboro people know their history and ancestral origins.
Using a book that carries one person’s view to identify land and settle disputes is absolutely not right as that book can be considered as preconceived.
Resolving land disputes can be dealt with by the elders in the different clans and their chiefs with the help of land mediators in Rigo.
Nauga’s book has its own purpose and he has his own motive. It should be disregarded by the people of Taboro in Rigo.
