BAWWI community learning centre in Banz, Jiwaka, has received much-needed reading books from the Telikom Foundation.

The centre is a community initiative set up in 2009 and caters for 70 elementary and pre-school children who are taught by four teachers.

Most of its revenue comes from school fees and community support.

Last Friday, a team from the Telikom Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the school with the boxes of books.

“Books are very important, many a time children need extra books and material to learn, and with plenty of books, children are able to learn a lot of new things,” foundation CEO Brian Sam said.

Community representative Bubiang Teine commended the foundation, saying the assistance was timely as more students from the surrounding communities were enrolling at the centre.

“Thank you, Telikom Foundation for the assistance that will go a long way for our children and community,” he said.
