WITH 15 days to go before the opening of the 2009 PNG Games, SP Brewery has come to the aid of the Pacific Games organising committee with a hefty K100,000 for the national event.
SP Brewery general manager Stan Joyce said yesterday as a traditional sponsor of sports in PNG, the company was happy to support the event this year.
“I am pleased to say that SP Brewery continues to assist in sports development in the country by supporting initiatives at the grassroots level.
“We hope this is reflected through our ongoing commitment to rugby league, golf and rugby union to ensure that we can match it with the world’s best,” Joyce said.
He made a mention of how big the event would be, taking into account of the number of participants it would involve.
It is estimated that over 6,000 sportsmen, women and technical officials will be attending the event.
Present to receive the cheque was Games organising committee chairman Jack Pidik and Games events manager Mary Karo.
“The recent staging of the Pacific Cup has seen our PNG Kumuls qualify for the Four Nations series; its another example of what we can achieve together, with good corporate and Government support,” Joyce said.
He also commended organisers for their efforts in ensuring all necessary logistics were in place for the staging of the games.
