PRIMARY schools in the Telefomin electorate of the West Sepik  are expected to get a timely boost of funds for projects.

According to the Education Standards officer at the Telefomin district office in Telefomin, Obert Ambert, local MP Solan Mirisim was to travel to Oksapmin today to present K800,000 to selected primary schools in the four LLGs there.

“The funding is coming from the K2 million education component that the MP has allocated and K1.2 million was already used for school fee subsidies for Telefomin children attending various institutions in the country,” Ambert said.

“The MP will now present K800,000 that will be distributed to primary schools, namely Telefomin, Oksapmin, Yaksie and Namea.”

Ambert said that the projects for the schools would include classroom buildings, teachers’ housing and other projects that have been neglected over the years.

“Telefomin has 80 elementary schools, 42 primary schools, two secondary schools and one vocational centre and is one of the least developed areas in PNG, but slowly the electorate is gaining momentum with the help of the new MP,” Ambert said.
