AT the first glimpse into the surgical ward, one will think the Wewak General Hospital is facing an acute shortage of staff.
Parents and guardians in the ward were doing the dressings for surgical patients under the supervision of a nurse.
But Wewak’s Boram General Hospital chief executive officer Dr Lawrence Warangi was promoting the initiative of guardians doing the dressings themselves because it would help them to administer treatment at home when the patients were discharged from hospital.
“It is more educational for parents and guardians to be involved in dressing surgical patients in the hospital wards and the hospital strongly encourages their involvement,” Warangi said.
