Boroko Amateur Swimming Club hosts first meet of 2021

THE Boroko Amateur Swimming Club held its first 2021 club meet at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre in Port Moresby last Friday.
The meet was the first of a run of fortnightly meets that the club had scheduled for the year to encourage and improve swimmers’ technique and times.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions last year, club swimmers lost an enormous amount of pool time with the centre closed to the public.
However, late last year, the centre was finally opened to the club for afternoon training sessions only.
The gradual return of swimmers and new interest with the commencement of school saw the meet draw more than 40 swimmers participating in about 100 entries.
It was all hands on deck, from the club committee members, coaches and parents, assisting with marshalling, timing and cheering the swimmers on.
There was praise all around from parents and swimmers, regarding the first meet.
One parent said he loved the event and was looking forward to more of them.
The positive feedback and the club’s aim to encourage the learning and love of swimming is what the club is striving for in 2021.
The family-oriented club is looking forward to the year ahead and preparing the swimmers for their first big competition, the Theodist National Championships, in May this year.
