A FIVE-YEAR plan for the people of Central Bougainville was presented to the National Government during an event at Kieta on Friday.
Central Bougainville MP Sam Akoitai presented the plan to National Planning Minister Sam Basil.
The plan which covered 2018 to 2022 was themed “Empowering the people of Central Bougainville to secure their future through sustainable economic growth and by embracing the Digital Age.”
“Bougainville remains one of the focus agendas of the national government, both in terms of its political future and its economic development,” Basil said.
He commended Akoitai for his foresight and plans to develop his district.
“The formulation of your district development plan was done in close consultation with the staff of the Department of National Planning and Monitoring.
“We will continue to provide whatever relevant support we can from our end to ensure this plan achieves its intended purpose and objectives,” Basil said.
Akoitai thanked the national government for approving the development plan in May, adding that the plan was the dream of the people to bring about development in Central Bougainville.
“The Central Bougainville plan came about as a result of consultations with the community chairmen, ward council members and education, health officers as well as officers of the Department of National Planning and Monitoring to ensure that the plan was aligned with the Medium Term Development Plan III, Vision 2050, and the ABG Strategic Plan,” he said.
During his visit, Basil also presented a cheque for K500,000 for a rural water supply programme for Central Bougainville to support remote island villages.
