BOWLS Papua New Guinea Limited says it has accepted the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee’s (PNGOC) decision to suspend the organisation over non-compliance.
Bowls PNG acting chief operating officer Andy Agovaua told The National that they were now in talks to have their annual general meeting (AGM) to begin their restructure.
“We’ve accepted the decision,” he said.
“We were supposed to hold our AGM in February and March to rectify the problems that PNGOC had outlined.
“Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to have the AGM.
“However, we have accepted that the points raised by PNGOC are true — we failed to meet their recommendations.
“Unfortunately, we were not communicating well within our seven bowling clubs during the Covid-19 pandemic. But now, we have all agreed that we will meet and rectify these problems.
“We would like to go ahead and hold our AGM next month in Lae but it will depend on restrictions set out in the state of emergency.
“We are rectifying this and I’ve been in contact with club presidents around the country and we should meet by mid-June.
“By then, we should have been able to address these matters.”
Agovaua said since the suspension, executives of the sport’s governing body were now caretakers in their roles and that the AGM would allow elections for new office bearers.
He said Bowls PNG would involve PNGOC representatives during their AGM to ensure that they had met the recommendations.
