WINTER (PNG) Limited yesterday sponsored a boxing club with K5,000 as its fighters prepare for Sunday’s World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia-sanctioned bouts.
Iron Chief head coach Kevin “Iron” Baki said the assistance would go towards buying gear to help his fighters Andrew Aisanga, John Decklam, Peter Miria and Chico Emmanuel.
“We’re fortunate to receive this assistance because we’ve been around for some time now but haven’t had anyone come in and support us like this,” he said.
Winter managing director Joseph Ng said it was a timely donation as they recognised the efforts of boxers who had earned spots for the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex event.
“We’d like to thank the guys at Iron Chief who had reached out to us,” he said.
“We only hope this can go towards getting the fighters prepared for Sunday.”
Iron Chief manager Solomon Jeram told The National that the support would not only help the fighters but further strengthen boxing in the country.
