A SEVEN-year-old boy who needs urgent surgery to remove tumours on his body has been given a lifeline.

Young Stanley Lorea of Gumine, Chimbu, has been a patient at Port Moresby General Hospital’s children’s ward since last August.

He was born with a rare disease called Himanjioma (tumour in the blood vessels).

Pacific Corporate Security Ltd (PCSL) in Port Moresby raised K2,000 to help send Stanley abroad for the operation.

Sister-in-charge at the hospital’s Ward 2A, Agnes Agebigo, said the tumours on Stanley’s right leg and another below his left armpit down to his waist had been growing over the years.

She explained that Stanley’s case was a rare one and that there was no treatment available in PNG.

She said they could only give him medication to reduce the size of the tumours.

Stanley’s mother Christina broke down in tears as she told her son’s story to those who had come to his aid.

She said because of Stanley’s condition he could not go to school.

To make matters worse for her, her husband passed away recently. She also has three other children to look after.

It was too much for her to bear so she asked her two brothers to come to Port Moresby to help.

“Stanley was born with a deformity since birth and has been facing all kinds of problem and she (Christina) doesn’t want the child to die,” Stanley’s uncle Henry Gelua, said.

He wrote to business houses for financial assistance but the response has not been good.

He said PCSL agreed to help by giving K2,000. Earlier K500 was given by Johnston and Johnston Pharmacy.

PCSL managing director Jacob Kaupa said Stanley’s case should draw the attention of the government who should look into and act upon it.

Kaupa said when he received the letter from Gelua, he got the management to assist as it could have been his own child.

PCSL is urging other business houses to assist Stanley and his family who are planning to go to Sydney, Australia, for the operation.

Anyone wishing to assist can contact PCSL to get more information for Stanley or donations can be deposited into the Stanley Lorea Appeal Account at BSP Boroko with account number 1009982008.
