POLICE rushed a boy in critical condition to the hospital after a bus hit him in Madang’s New Town on Saturday.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the boy was admitted to the Modilon General Hospital in a critical condition but was out of danger.
“The bus was driven by a Chinese businessman who claimed the vehicle went off the road at Naru Mountain after it developed mechanical faults,” he said.
No bus passenger was injured but the front of the vehicle was badly damaged. Acting Supt Rubiang said policemen were notified of the accident and rushed to the scene to save the boy.
“It is now holidays and the students will be at home,” he said.
“The parents must take care of them and advise them not to walk unnecessarily on the roadside because there are different people driving different vehicles.
“Some of the vehicles have mechanical faults that can cause accidents, it is best to keep your children safe at home.”
Acting Supt Rubiang called on drivers to obey traffic rules and get their vehicles registered so that accident victims can claim compensation.
“There are many vehicles on the road that are unregistered and not roadworthy in and outside town,” he said.
