DIVINE Word University vice-president Br Andrew Simpson, who died last Wednesday, was buried yesterday at the Alexishafen Catholic cemetery outside Madang.

Hundreds of town residents, business houses representatives, ex-students and the Catholic community packed the university chapel in Madang as early as 8am to attend the funeral service.

Special tributes were made by his close friends, family members and DWU community about the good work he did in growth and development of the university and his unique personality and character in his youth days and missionary work before joining the University.

DWU President Fr Jan Czuba said the late Andrew had a unique character that was indescribable and had contributed anonymously to the development of the university.

“He would be remembered always by ex-students throughout Papua New Guinea, the DWU and catholic community in Madang,” Czuba said.

Andrew’s casket was carried by 20 male students to a waiting vehicle and was escorted by heavy police traffic with more than 100 vehicles to the burial site at Alexishafen.
