Brewers deny charges relating to homebrew

TWO men pleaded not guilty before the Lae District Court to producing and possessing homebrew after they were arrested with large quantities of homebrew-producing equipment in a settlement in Lae last month.
Peter Yopa, 53, from Sinasina in Chimbu, with two wives and eight children, and Domtom Nanere, 23, from Henganofi in Eastern Highlands, married with three children, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Tera Dawai.
Yopa told the court that he returned from work and was sleeping in his house without any knowledge of the homebrew when police went in an arrested him.
Nanere, in his response, told the court that he was at haus krai with his wife and while returning home he was arrested.
He said he had no idea about the homebrew.
Magistrate Dawai adjourned their cases to June 17 for trial at the summary court with police witnesses to be present to testify.
