BRIAN Bell and its customers raised more than K400,000 for relief kits for families affected by the Highlands earthquake in February.
The money was raised through the Earthquake Relief Day event on Friday April 13 involving all Brian Bell stores nationwide, according to Brian Bell Group chief executive Cameron Mackellar.
“Whilst we certainly anticipated a strong result to this national crisis and called for support from across the country, we never imagined the customers would come out in such numbers to help us deliver this incredible and uplifting result as we have” he said.
“The support we have had from our customers across the country, and our team members will enable us to provide many families with much-needed support and a new beginning in the coming weeks.
“The Earthquake Relief Day raised about K416,402 on the day which will allow us to provide 1500 earthquake relief kits to families in need.”
The relief kits will have:

  •  Axe with handle;
  •  Woven bags and water carriers;
  •  File seed packs, fertiliser NPK and garden spade;
  •  Bush knives (22-inch and 14-inch), grass knife; and
  •  Claw hammer and nail packs
    “This is truly an outstanding outcome and is only made possible through the immense contribution from our national customer base, and their tremendous support to those families so dramatically affected by the earthquake on Feb 26 this year,” Mackellar said.
    “These relief kits will allow many families to start rebuilding their lives, their livelihoods and their properties.
    “Each kit worth K277 will importantly consist of practical items to enable a fresh start.”
