Momis congratulates PM
AUTONOMOUS Region of Bougainville president Dr John Momis, congratulated James Marape for being elected Papua New Guinea’s 8th prime minister (PM). “… I wish you well as you take on the burden of the PM’s office,” Momis said. “Having observed the way in which you discharged your previous ministerial roles, I have no doubt that you will bring new vision and purpose to the role of PM,” Momis added. “I look forward to working with you and your government in the important work required over the next six months as we prepare to hold a free and fair election of the referendum as required by the national constitution that gives effect to the Bougainville Peace Agreement.”

Eye doctors to visit ENB
ST Mary’s Vunapope Hospital in East New Britain has invited six eye specialists from the Christian Blind Mission in Goroka Eastern Highlands to conduct a clinic in Kokopo. The team, led by Dr Geoffrey Wabulembo, will be arriving in Kokopo on June 16 and leaving on June 23.

Southern region doing well
A TWO-DAY Sothern regional workshop in Kiunga last week sought to identify key issues and challenges affecting the efficiency of service delivery. The workshop, facilitated by the National Economic and Fiscal Commission (NEFC), and themed “Looking back, going forward” was attended by more than 100 participants. NEFC chairman Hohora Suve said southern regions were doing well in terms of performance but certain provinces needed improvements

Marape urged to lean on God
THE Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church encouraged Prime Minister James Marape to continue to lean on God to lead the nation, according to a statement. Marape is an elder and a son of a SDA church pastor. SDA church president in PNG pastor
Kepsie Elodo congratulated Marape on behalf of more than 300,000 members of the church. “We encourage you to be like Joseph in Egypt, Daniel in Babylon and others who have stood tall for God and his principles.”

People ask for a ministry
THE East Sepik people urged Prime Minister James Marape to assign a ministerial portfolio to one of their members. East Sepik Pangu party president Andrew Saviiromo said as a political leader of the party and representing the people of East Sepik, “I congratulate Marape for winning the PM’s seat”. Saviiromo said Marape had vast experience politically and also controlled some strong ministerial portfolios like the finance ministry.

Call for good work to continue
EAST New Britain (ENB) governor Nakikus Konga appealed to Prime Minister James Marape to support and continue with some of the good work that the O’Neill/Abel government had launched. Konga said the ENB government had proposed for a couple of impact projects that were now in progress and others still pending approval and funding assistance. He also said after the twin volcano eruption in 1994 there were not many major projects in the province, adding that obligations such as to build and upgrade Tokua airport with other small airstrips as well as other impact projects did not materialise.

Official asks for intervention
FORMER Southern Highlands election steering committee acting chairman Nel Yapa has commended Tari-Pori MP James Marape on his election as PNG’s 8th prime minister. Yapa, from Kagua-Erave, said he was proud to be associated with both former PM Peter O’Neill and Marape. He called for the sealing of the Kagua to Erave road to continue, urging Marape to intervene in the development process of Kagua and Erave.

PNG gets membership
PNG is now officially part of the Global Project Steering Committee for Capacity Building Initiative (CBIT) of the United Nation’s Climate Change Paris Agreement Global. The committee was formed to advance the Global Environment Fund (GEF) CBIT project with countries from Africa, Middle Eastern, and Asia-Pacific.
