Time set for service providers
ESSENTIAL service providers in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville will operate from 10am to 3pm during the remainder of the state of emergency, deputy Police Comm and Chief of Bougainville Police Service Francis Tokura said. He said essential service providers included pharmaceutical companies, medical clinics, private health services, banking and financial services, grocery shops, trade stores, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, telecommunication and mobile service providers, public utilities and fuel stations.

Checkpoints set up at AROB
IN the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB), several checkpoints have been set up by police to ensure people are complying with social distancing requirements and traffic rules. These checkpoints are set up at Ramazon/Sawmill section of the Kokopau/Arawa Highway; Malsang; Buka/Kesa Highway; between Kuka and Kokopau; Wakunai/Arawa Highway; Buin Town and surrounding communities.

US commits K4.2 million
THE United States government has committed about K4.2 million to help Papua New Guinea in its Covid-19 response. “The US government strongly supports our partnership with the governments of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in a comprehensive, worldwide fight against Covid-19,” US Ambassador Erin McKee said.

Covid-19 fight requires all
THE fight against Covid-19 is not only for the Government but for everybody, including the business community, East New Britain state of emergency controller Wilson Matava says. Matava made the remarks last Sunday when accepting food donation from Tropicana Ltd managing director Dame Sandra Lau in Kokopo.

Foundation donates soap
PEOPLE from Krangket Island in Madang received 14 cartons of soap, thanks to the Melanesian Foundation. The foundation, with assistance from the Madang Arts Maniacs and the Niugini Dive Adventures, delivered the soap with flyers demonstrating the steps for proper hand-washing.

Avoid shaking hands
MELANESIAN Foundation chairman Sir Peter Barter has stressed the issue of proper hygiene. “Papua New Guineans are social people, it is our Melanesian way of life, but we need to practise proper hygiene and proper handwashing. At best, avoid shaking hands.”

Police arrest captain
THE captain of a foreign vessel that entered the waters of Pomio in East New Britain last week was arrested and fined for breaching orders under the state of emergency (SOE) in the province. According to provincial administrator and provincial SOE controller, the captain was fined K2,000 for arriving at two non-declared ports.

Keeping watch on highway
IN West New Britain, the New Britain Trans-National Highway is being monitored and there are ongoing communication, social mobilisation and awareness activities. The province has also created a 14-day self-quarantine certificate.

Call to tighten border patrols
MANUS is preparing for awareness activities to the outer Western Islands that have been having international tourist yachts visiting. A call has been made for Immigration, PNG Customs and police to tighten border patrols.

Authority receives K200,000
THE New Ireland health authority (PHA) has received its K200,000 Covid-19 funds and has started rolling out its provincial response plans. The PHA said a triage system had been set up at the Kavieng Provincial Hospital.
