Fire dept rescues man
CHIEF Fire Officer Bill Roo says the quick response from his team helped save a man after falling from a two-storey rooftop in Port Moresby last Friday. Roo said the use of the ladder truck in the rescue operation indicated that fire services personnel were prepared not only in responding to fighting fires but to other emergencies as well.

Kaupa allocates K1mil
MORESBY North East MP John Kaupa has allocated K1 million as a tuition fee subsidy for secondary and primary schools in his electorate and aimed at catering for more than 10,000 students. The funding was from 20 per cent of the district services improvement programme (DSIP). The funding covers parents’ component of the tuition fees.

K1mil for radio coverage
THE Government has given the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) K1 million to increase its radio coverage in parts of the country, says Communication and Information Technology Minister Timothy Masiu. Masiu said he would consult with NBC on how best to utilise the K1 million and the attention would be on provincial radio stations.

Lack of funding a concern
Lack of funding is preventing the implementation of initiatives aimed at addressing gender- based violence (GBV) in the communities, an official says. Department of Community Development secretary Anna Bias said GBV was one of the many soft issues – that affected people’s behaviour that the department dealt with which needed to be addressed.

Staff giving their best
PUBLIC servants from the district health and education sectors in Tewai-Siassi district in Morobe have given their best in serving the people. Physical planning board, youth and women representative Delilah Kelly said during a meeting that due to the many law and order problems faced in the district, basic services to the people had been negatively impacted.

Utilise Covid-19 funds: Juffa
NORTHERN Governor Gary Juffa has called on the provincial health authority (PHA) to properly utilise the funds for Covid-19 operations. Juffa made this call following the presentation of two separate cheques totaling K2.5 million from the provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funds to fight Covid-19.

Govt aims to improve road
THE Government through the Works Department aims to improve three quarters of the national road over the next 10 years. Works and Implementation Minister Michael Nali said this was his department’s goal as they worked on Papua New Guinea’s main highways and major roads.

System to be changed
THE amendment to the Constitution on the Organic Law on decentralisation will change the current system of local and provincial governments, an official says. Secretary for Department of Justice and Attorney-General Dr Eric Kwa said that the amendment would repeal the provisions on the provincial and local level governments and replace it with the new decentralised system.
