Ex-governor dead
FORMER Western Highlands governor Brian Kindi Lawi was laid to rest at his Pulgimb village, outside Mt Hagen last week. Lawi died at the age of 65 and is survived by three wives, 14 children and 35 grandchildren

Embassy gives PPEs
NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan says that personal protective equipment donated recently by the Chinese Embassy will be given to churches in the province to be distributed to the people. The PPEs include face masks, thermometer guns and protective wear.

Cameras for security
ACTING Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai says that the installations of cameras at polling areas during the Goroka by-election was an initiative by police. “The use of cameras is a security measure inserted by the Police Department,” he said. Sinai said the cameras were placed in close proximity to polling booths, 5m-10m away to keep the area under surveillance.

MOROBE Governor Ginson Saonu says that the election win of Goroka MP and Pangu Pati member Aiye Tambua is a signal of what the party will do in the 2022 National Elections. He commended the party, its members and leader and Prime Minister James Marape for their support.

Rural services vital
Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Sir Puka Temu has promised that rural health services will be supported by the Government. Sir Puka said churches played a critical role in the delivery of health services in rural areas and they would be given all the support they needed.

A MAN accused of using a knife to threaten another man during the 2017 National Elections appeared for mention before Magistrate Garry Unjo on Oct 5. Gin Magaru from Hoyapiya, Tari, Hela, was charged with being armed and making threats.

App for land monitoring
UNITED States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Papua New Guinea Lukautim Graun Programme (LGP) has introduced a mobile application that would help with its monitoring and evaluation exercise. USAID is working in partnership with PNG’s Conservation, Environment Protection Authority and Cardno International Development on a five-year LPG programme which started in 2019.

‘Be serious with virus’
UNICEF PNG’s Youth Advocate Leoshina Kariha says that the Covid-19 does not discriminate and can affect anyone. “As a nation and team, we have to take a serious stand together to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19,” she said.
