Culture vital for tourism
THE National Cultural Commission in partnership with Tourism, Arts and Culture, ran a workshop on the national cultural policy 2022-2032 in East New Britain recently. PNG Tourism Promotion Authority chief executive officer Eric Mossman Uvovo said culture was one of the main draws for tourism in PNG.

Scheme benefits 18,000
A HOUSING scheme for Western Highlands has benefited 18,000 families, a local level government president says. Lower Kagul president Mek Kerowa said some of the projects the Government was focused on were coffee, poultry, sorghum cultivation, forestry and a potato project to be rolled out in secondary schools.

Firms sign transport deal
LAE-based security firm, Lamadeb Property Protection Ltd has signed a three-year deal with Dulux Group to provide pick up and drop off for its staff. Group general manager Simon Barstow said the deal was to ensure their employees were safe guarded and had a reliable transport to and from work.

Quarantine facility for inmates
A Coronavirus (Covid-19) quarantine facility funded by Lae city authority has been constructed and brought to Buimo jail for prisoners to be quarantined, Buimo commanding officer Supt Michael Wundia says. Supt Wundia said eight shipping containers containing three quarantine rooms for a total of 24 rooms would be used next year.

Authority gets testing devices
NEW Britain Palm Oil Ltd (NBPOL) has assisted the Morobe health authority with 1,400 Coronavirus (Covid-19) rapid testing devices and a compressor nebuliser to fight against the surging virus recently. Country manager Robert Nilkare said NBPOL reached out to several provinces in the Highlands, especially the last outbreak in East Highlands, Western Highlands and Chimbu.

Construction almost complete
THE construction of the Wasu local level government (LLG) council chamber in Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, is nearing completion. Local MP Dr Kobby Bomareo said councillors would have a building to meet and deliberate on plans for their wards and as a house of community leaders. He said the building would house offices for Wasu LLG administration and the Tewae-Siassi development authority and will also host a separate meeting room for Wasu councillors.

Roofing factory to be built
A ROOFING iron factory worth K3 million is expected to be built at Mutzing station in Markham, Morobe, following a launch last month. The factory was among four projects that the district development authority has embarked on to provide materials for local homes and small businesses.

Cultural show deferred
NATIONAL Cultural Commission chief executive officer Steven Kilanda says the Southern Highland’s Wiru cultural show has been deferred to next year due to the increase in the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Delta variant cases in Highlands and other parts of the country. Kilanda said the commission had recognised the show as a national event.

Firm continues support
DEVELOPER ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea has supported the Port Moresby Nature Park to reach its potential to benefit the community and preserve the country’s biodiversity, an official says. Park chief executive officer Michelle McGeorge acknowledged the firm’s support as a major sponsor over the years.

Family donates to hospital
THE Buri family in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, has donated a total of K150,000 in cash and kind towards the provincial hospital to help the province manage the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). The family gave K120,000 to the hospital together with the supporting equipment.
