Plans to offer programme
THE Pacific Adventist University has plans to introduce new courses such as a bachelor of medicine and surgery, bachelor of dentistry, masters of midwifery and masters of nursing under its school of health science, dean and senior lecturer Isaac Bokuluwih Joshua says. “Currently, the school of health science offers bachelor of nursing, bachelor of midwifery and a certificate in health promotion,” he said.

Celebrating Maritime Day
WOMEN working in the maritime industry throughout the Pacific are expected to celebrate their first international day today to promote gender equity, according to the National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA). In a statement, NMSA said the International Day for Women in Maritime would become an annual event on May 18, for the International Maritime Organisations and its member states.

Retirement ceremony held
THE National Housing Corporation (NHC) conducted a retirement ceremony with the help of the Department of Personnel Management last Wednesday. A total of 32 retirees were in line to sign their deeds of release and finally disembark from the public service. NHC managing director Henry Mokono said the retirement list was made up of members ranging from the age of 60-70 years.

Vehicles for police stations
POLICE in the Port Moresby North-West electorate will now be able to respond effectively to calls, a senior police officer says. Zone one commander Fred Tundu said this last Wednesday during the official presentation of new 10-seater vehicles for Gerehu and Hohola police stations by the district development authority. Local MP Lohia Boe Samuel urged police and the people to look after the vehicles.

K800,000 for students
MORESBY North-West MP Lohia Boe Samuel presented a total of K800,000 to 250 students of his electorate attending the Port Moresby Technical College (Pomtech) in Port Moresby last week. Samuel said the scholarship funding was approved in February for the students most of whom were Motu-Koitabuans. Pomtech deputy principal for academic Mitiam Jake said the scholarship would positively impact the lives of the students.

Disaster risk training
FOUR provinces in the Highlands will be better able to respond to disasters following the community-based disaster risk management training recently. “Climate change has resulted in increased occurrences of disasters. The information shared in this training is critical in helping our rural communities to become more resilient to disasters,” Tambul-Nebilya deputy administrator Manuel Kewa said.

Trust, partnership vital: MP
BUILDING trust and partnership between an open member and a governor should be a key to providing necessary services for the long-term benefit of the people, Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko says. Tkatchenko said he was able to deliver some of the best services in the electorate through a close partnership with National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop.
