Goroka hosting judges
THE Goroka National Court will host a five-day Supreme Court sitting for the first time starting today. Acting Goroka National Court registrar Helen Thomas confirmed a six-man bench of the Supreme Court would sit in Goroka for a week (May 23-27). She said a special guard of honour would be held for the visiting National and Supreme Court Judges prior to the commemoration of the special sitting today. The six-man bench will comprise Justices Panuel Mogish, George Manuhu, Stephen Kassman, John Kaumi, Iova Geita and Ravunama Auka.

ENB approves initiative
THE Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) mitigation project has been given the green light for implementation in East New Britain. This was approved by the provincial government at a provincial assembly meeting in Kokopo on May 4. Chairman for the lands and physical planning forestry, mining and energy in the provincial government, Michael Warium, when presenting the endorsement paper said REDD focused on inclusion of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks.

Data cost too high
SAVE the Children (SCPNG) child protection coordinator Owen Suanga says most of the information on online safety is not being viewed on Facebook by children between the ages of 12-18 due to high data cost. He made this known when he spoke to 800 students in four primary schools about online and cyber bullying in Port Moresby recently.

Uni raises K170,000
The PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNGUNRE) recently hosted a fundraising dinner in Kokopo, East New Britain, aimed at completing projects at its Vudal campus. Vice chancellor Prof Aisak Pue said around K170,000 was raised at the event.

Water project launched
A SOLAR bore water project has been launched in a village in Central under the province’s plan to provide access to clean and safe water for the people. Central Governor Robert Agarobe said the project would cover 34 villages at a cost of K12 million.

Hospital goes online
PARADISE Private Hospital is now able to attend to the public online following the launch of its digital services on May 10. Nurse unit manager Susan Mwadeda said: “In the past, we had to deal with a lot of paper work including diaries and patient registers. This computerised system will be more efficient.
