Biden’s visit seen as positive
OPPOSITION Leader Joseph Lelang says the United States President Joe Biden and other leaders visit to PNG is good for businesses, foreign direct investments and international relations. “PNG must recognise the strategic and important role such a visit plays out in
geopolitical and international affairs and relations given recent developments and tensions in the region and around the world today,” he said. He urged the Government to identify strategic interests our country can gain from such visits.

PE encouraged in schools
HELA schools are encouraged to promote sporting activities to create an environment for physical activity and personal development among children. Education division director Ronny Angu said these activities would allow both indoor and outdoor fitness for children. Angu said Dauli Demonstration Primary School was leading with the implementation of a school sports programme.

District status pushed
THE Siassi people from the Umboi chain of islands support Morobe Governor Luther Wenge’s decision to grant them district status to manage their own affairs. Wenge’s recent announcement at Sakar Island during ELC-Siassi women’s conference received a standing ovation from the delegation members.

Online protection for children
SAVE The Children PNG and Meta launched phase three of the online safety campaigns for students and teachers at Carr Memorial Primary School in Port Moresby last week. PNG
child protection coordinator Owen Suanga said the campaigns were aimed at educating and safe-guarding students on how to use internet safely.

More LLGs for Pomio
DELIVERY of basic services remains a challenge for Pomio due to its geographical challenges, a district official said. Pomio deputy district administrator, in charge of operations, Joshua Jeremiah raised this during the swearing in of the ward development committee members for the seven local level governments recently. Jeremiah said the numbers of LLGs had increased from five to seven to improve governance of the district and ensure all areas were served adequately.

Science promoted in expo
HELA education director Ronny Angu has urged students to engage in the science expo programme as it can motivate a student to pursue a career in the sciences. “The programme gives students the opportunity to showcase technical competencies and scientific creativity, emphasising the significance of critical thinking both inside and outside the classroom,” Angu said after he attended a science expo at Pureni High School recently.

Training for teachers
THE Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG, through its informal education section, has trained 86 primary and secondary school teachers to become school-based counsellors. It was done through a training they received from the church.
