FINAL-year students at Enga Teachers’ College have quit chewing of betel nuts, smoking and alcohol and studying instead to be more successful. New Students’ Representative Council president Comfort Paju said the school was applying zero tolerance for the three vices.

Police call
POLICE in the Lae metropolitan command should be professionals and community-oriented in their approach to duty to gain the community’s confidence, says a police officer. Lae Metropolitan Chief Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said police could come up with all sorts of concepts to improve policing, but it would be no use if policemen and women were not capable of doing their job and doing it right. “We, as the government’s law- enforcing agency, are here to serve the community we work in and I am focused on improving performances,” Wagambie Jr said.

Theft case
A woman appeared at the Waigani Committal Court on a total of 84 counts of stealing money through false pretence, stealing from employer, money laundering and misappropriation. Vavine Elizabeth Emil, 28, from Kavieng, New Ireland worked as an accounts clerk with Kramer Ausenco (PNG) Ltd, a sub consultant company to Oriental Consultant Global Co, Ltd in Port Moresby. Between May and Dec last year, Emil allegedly used her username and password to make 21 invoice payments at a total of K127,788.87 to her salary account. Kalandi extended Emil’s bail and adjourned to March 13 .
