Bring in drug suspects, police say

LALOKI police are urging the Daisiyama Four community in Port Moresby to bring in the drug suspects who had escaped from them on Tuesday.
Snr Const Rex Pia, the officer-in-charge of Laloki police, told The National that many of the community leaders and councillors in the area, had failed to inform police on such matters.
Snr Const Pia said law and order enforcement in the community was not effective so people were taking advantage of it.
He said they had asked the leaders to come forward to help in such matters but many claimed that they were fearing revenge.
“While waiting for the suspects to be handed over to us, the uprooting and burning of marijuana will continue in the area,” he said.
Snr Const Pia said the six policemen at Laloki Police Station would move into the area along the river banks to uproot marijuana and burn plots.
“So far, we have uprooted three gardens of marijuana,” he said.
Snr Const Pia said marijuana cultivators from two gardens they had uprooted were locked up at the Laloki Station.
Meanwhile, Snr Const Pia said two female suspects detained last week would be charged after police had completed uprooting their gardens.
“During our operations, we are also carrying out awareness on the disadvantages of the marijuana and its effects on the community,” he said.
