THE Hidden Valley emergency response team is ready for the 2015 ER challenge to be hosted by Ramu Nico in Madang starting tomorrow, the team says.

The challenge will end on Tuesday. The team will join other mining and petroleum companies in PNG to showcase their ER skills. Not only will they vie for the best ER team for this year, it will be an arena where teams learn from each other as well.

The events that HV ER team will be taking part in include vertical rescue, hazchem (hazardous chemical), firefighting, endurance, search and rescue, multi-casualty and theory. Team captain and emergency response supervisor Benedict Saun said the team had been training hard to prepare for each event.

“The team is ready. We are identifying our weakness and polishing up on them.

“Our preparation was better than the last couple of years and we have learnt a lot from emergency response training from West Australia, an Australia-based ER training firm that is preparing us for the challenge,” he said.

Saun said HV ER was made up mostly of auxiliary members.

He said they made up the backbone of our ER unit on site and it would be a good training and exposure for them.
