DEFENDING Capital Rugby Union (CRU) champions Brothers continued their perfect start with a 50-0 shutout of newcomers Marlins in round two at Port Moresby’s Bava Park on Sunday.
Brothers dominated the premier clash with Papua New Guinea international Arthur Clement and No.8 Eugene Tokavai leading their attack against an inexperienced Marlins outfit.
They posted nine unanswered tries against the Rawali Bokuik-coached opposition. The Marlins, however, found some success in their junior divisions with their Under-19s and U23s winning 5-0 and 8-5 respectively against Brothers.
Meanwhile, University Piggies survived a scare to edge Royals 12-10 on Saturday.
Both sides scored two five-pointers each but the Piggies’ sole successful try conversion proved the difference.
The season has been split into 10 rounds of competition for the U19s, U23s (B Grade) and premiers.
The 10 clubs this year will see matches played in pools of five teams with CRU officials confirming that the finals will be played over three weeks in October. Nov 6 has been set as the tentative date for the grand finals.
Meanwhile, park officials said the season would continue without spectators until the competition received clearance from the PNG Sports Foundation.
