MINOR premiers PNG Power saved the best for last when they stopped pre-match favourites United Brothers 7-2 in the Port Moresby Men’s Softball League A grade grand final on Saturday at Bisini Softball ground.

United Brothers led by Dick Bart Jnr, Gerard Pokanau, Raymond Diou, Adrian Chan and Jerry Jollam, did not have any answers to strong pitcher/catcher combination of the Tovia brothers, Danny (pitcher) and Isikel Jnr (catcher).

The Tovia brothers, who combined well for their club and also for the Port  Moresby representative side at the national championship in Kavieng recently, held off a strong United Brothers batting line-up.

This was an indication of their discipline and preparation, mentally and physically,  throughout the training which resulted in a massive victory against the Brothers.

Complimenting the good pitching from Danny was the strong batting display from Dimmick Wosley, Eddie Simba, Isikel Jnr, Danny, Demas Tovia and Pidil Pakar.

By the top of the sixth inning, PNG Power was comfortably leading 7-2 which they held on to until the end.

Dick Bart Jnr, Raymond Diou, Adrian Chan tried hard for the losing team.

PNG Power won K5,000 plus the PMSL Trophy while Brothers settled for K1,000.

In the men’s B grade grand final, Defence bounced back from trailing 4-9 at the top of the fifth inning to eventually win the title by two points, 14-12 over much fancied Brown Eagles.

The Eagles can curse themselves for causing a lot of silly errors.
