TWO brothers were arrested for the Dec 28 murder of a Tumanda primary school headmaster in Laiagam, Enga province.
John and Gibson Yakapus were arrested last Wednesday and charged with the murder of Kimbun Nom.
The brothers were identified as prime suspects among nine people from the Makole tribe allegedly involved in the killing of Nom, a father of three children in Lyamala village.
The suspects were picked up in a joint operation of Mobile squad 12 based in Laiagam, Wabag and Surinki police led by rural police commander Chief Insp Martin Lakari.
Mr Lakari told The National from Wabag that another man was also arrested last Monday and charged for the murder.
The man was now in Baisu jail, Western Highlands province.
“The brothers were arrested in their village after they refused to voluntarily surrender to the police.
“Their tribesmen also co-operated with the police.
“The brothers appeared before the Wabag district court for mention of charges last Thursday,” he said.
Mr Lakari said Nom was axed by the nine suspects after he stopped the brothers from burying their father on Nom’s land.
