BROTHERS retained pole spot after they edged University 24-22 in round nine of the Capital Rugby Union competition at Bava Park in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Valley Hunters handed the second-placed Harlequins their second loss of the season with a 23-17 win in the main match of the day.
Valley coach Max Katal said he was proud that his men played well.
“It’s great for us to win games against bigger clubs,” he said.
Katal said they had some good forwards joining the team this year and hoped that they would remain with them next season.
“Otherwise, we will go back to our original forwards and we always do our best,” he said.
On 23 points, fourth-placed Valley have won four matches, drawn one and lost four.
Meanwhile, Wanderers beat Moni Plus Nova 12-8 and LCR Juggernauts lost 15-17 to the Crusaders in the first two matches.
“The short season will be wrapping up with the final round next week,” competition coordinator Pepe Gotaha said.
“The top team will be declared Cup winners.”
