HEKARI United’s Kepo brothers — Kolu, Atti and Freddy — combined to score all the goals in their side’s 2-0 win over the winless Gulf Komara in the round three of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium on Saturday.
The win saw Hekari continue their perfect start to the season.
The first goal came through Kolu Kepo in the 9th minute when he curved a free kick around Komara’s fence from outside the penalty area to find the net after an infringement on Kolu’s younger brother Atti Kepo.
Hekari were in control for most of the first half.
The second half saw Hekari maintain their dominance in the middle with the experience of representative midfielders Michael Foster and David Muta who steadied the ship despite the fighting spirit shown by Gulf forwards Numa Kila and Rupa Emil.
The 88th minute saw the Kepo brothers produce another special goal when Atti Kepo dribbled the ball 40m down the left edge before he found his brother Kolu with a cross. Kolu then set up Freddy to score after Gulf goalkeeper Ila Rova was caught out of position.
Hekari led 2-0 until the final whistle.
Winning coach Jerry Allan told The National after the match that he was proud of his players and that it was their most satisfying win so far this season.
“I can say I am more satisfied with this win,” Allan said.
“We controlled the game till the end.
“The Kepo brothers were awesome, our new goalkeeper Anthony Talo played well.”
