BANK South Pacific gave K100,000 to the Port Moresby General Hospital last Thursday to support the 19th Operation Open Heart programme next month.
Bank chief executive officer Ian Clyne said apart from funding the cardiothoracic unit, they were pleased to support the Operation Open Heart programme too.
Hospital director medical services Dr David Mokela thanked the bank for the funding.
He said they would use the funds for the programme, which was three weeks away.
Mokela said they expected to operate on 55 to 60 patients this year, with open and closed heart cases.
He said the closed heart operations would be carried out by the local team starting July 24 and the open heart operations would be from Aug 2-9.
Mokela could not confirm the number of medical officials that would be travelling to PNG from Australia.
The operation had proved to be successful since its inception.
