BSP backs national women’s soccer team

IT is all smiles from the four-time defending champions, the Papua New Guinea women’s football team to the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, as they received new soccer boots from Bank South Pacific (BSP) in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
In acknowledging the bank’s support, team manageress Roosje Suwae, pictured, said the side were fortunate to have the backing of BSP days before the Games, which start on Sunday and end on July 20.
“We were in desperate need of soccer boots and therefore reached out to BSP who have come good with soccer boots for all players to the value of over K4,000,” she said. in a statement.
BSP marketing and public relations head Gorethy Semi, pictured, whilst presenting the soccer boots, said: “The current team comprises of players from all regions in PNG, most of whom are unemployed and come from rural areas, and BSP is happy to be supporting the team at this time.”
The all-female-managed team consists of head coach Frederica Sakette, assistant coach Margaret Aka, kit manager Susan Watpore and Suwae.
BSP also added additional items to the value of around K3,000 to assist the team in their training which included water bottles, hats, T-shirts and towels.
The team are co-captain by Lucy Maino, Sandra Birum and veteran Deslyn Siniu.
