THE Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) continues to set up cash agents in rural communities to reach the unbanked and promote financial inclusion, an official says.
It recently opened a cash agent service at Derim village in the Deyamos rural local level government of Kabwum district, Morobe.
The service is now available from J Mondu Trading owned by George Honeta. The villagers used to travel for two hours by road to reach the nearest BSP sub-branch at Kabwum station, to access banking services.
A round trip could cost K100 per person.
Lae Top Town branch manager Bevilon Homuo said the services would now make it easier for businesses and people to make deposits and withdrawals. Our branch team will
do regular visits to facilitate the opening of new accounts and register customers who want to use mobile and internet banking,” she said.
“You can do it (banking services) here in Derim.”
Honeta said, as an agent for BSP: “I want to assist the communities by providing banking services here to cut their cost of travel to Kabwum.
“The people of Derim have had a hard time travelling to Kabwum BSP sub-branch and Lae for withdrawals and deposits.
The BSP Lae Top Town branch now has 11 cash agents operating in Morobe.
The agents are provided wireless EFTPoS terminals by BSP to facilitate bank transactions.
