PEOPLE in Ialibu, Southern Highlands, will no longer have to travel to centres such as Mt Hagen or Mendi to do banking, thanks to Bank South Pacific (BSP).

The bank recently opened a container styled sub branch for customers in the district.

Prime Minister and Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill, who officially opened the branch, urged all people to engage with the bank and take ownership of the services it offered.

Chief executive officer Robin Fleming said: “BSP is proud to open this sub-branch in Ialibu, as this is the first container style bank to have been set up in this area.

“We are confident that banking services will now pave the way for people in this district to participate in economic development.”

The Ialibu branch brings to a total of eight BSP container style branches across Papua New Guinea, out of the 44 sub-branches the bank operates.

BSP provides the sub-branch as part of its services to all customers, and especially to the rural communities.

The sub-branch facilitates basic banking transactions, though the use of tablet technology and EFTPoS, and provides the convenience so customers don’t have to travel the long distances to deposit or withdraw money from their accounts.
