BANK South Pacific Financial Group Limited (BSP) is now the naming rights sponsor of the home of Sepik Pride, the Pora Oval, in Wewak, East Sepik.
BSP became the first to acquire the naming rights to the oval that accommodates the local rugby league competition.
The bank’s support to the oval facilities will see an improved grandstand, fencing and general maintenance of the ground and venue.
When presenting a cheque for K30,000 to Pride, BSP Wewak branch manager Philip Solala said: “The partnership will be a great opportunity to bring together shared core values and the close-knit cultures of the community and businesses.
“We hope our support will boost the sport in the province and enhance the experience of players and the team.
“We hope it will also contribute to developing local talents in the province.”
BSP chief executive Robin Fleming said: “BSP is pleased that partnerships like this help expand the banks relationship with local communities, especially the diverse local community of East Sepik, through sports, health and wellbeing.
“We are committed to the long-term success of a community.
“We want to re-connect people and their communities, because they are the lifeline of our economy and business operations.”
Pride bid committee chairman Solomon Reynolds thanked BSP for the support.
“EMK Sepik Pride are proud to partner with BSP,” he said.
“This two-year partnership is an important drive in supporting the Pride’s Digicel Cup bid that started last year and will continue in 2022.
“We pride ourselves as a provincial team.
“With support from a prominent organisation like BSP, it indicates that the bank is committed to the people and communities.
“Rugby league has grown over time and we are grateful for the support in making sure the new BSP Pora Oval serves its purpose of developing rugby league in East Sepik.
“We welcome BSP as our naming rights partner, and we look forward to success — on and off the field — over the next few years.”
