BANK South Pacific (BSP) knocked out QBE Doves with a 15-13 win in the elimination final of the Private Companies Netball Competition premier division in Port Moresby yesterday.
BSP will now meet Westpac who lost to reigning premiers Moore Printing 7-14 in the major semifinal at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex.
Moore Printing are on standby for next weekend’s grand final. Division rookies Doves are now out of the title race. Hape scored nine points and Mulina bagged six.
Doves’ Nape Waka claimed seven points and Elisabeth Ovo scored six.
BSP mid-court players Magaru Vanuawaru, Theresa Mulina and Vavine Raula had to step up to contain their opposites in Keola Vuivagi, Melissa Kivung and Patricia Torea.
In defence, Doves’ Sue Ellen Pala and Nora Laka were outstanding against opposition shooters Hape and Mulina. BSP defenders Lydna Kassman and Cecilia Agelavu also had strong games.
BSP veteran Renagi Mulina said after the game that they were surprised by a much-improved Doves outfit.
She said Agelavu’s late inclusion spurred the side to go on and claim victory.
“We played a lot different to Doves who performed well in defence and the mid-court,” she said.
“But I had a lot of support from Hape to score some important goals in the second half.
“They broke our attack with good defence but we were fortunate to hold our nerves and beat them by two points. We were stretched in the first half, with the opposition leading 6-5.”
