Buiebi Jail in need of vehicle

THE Southern Highlands and Hela governments have been urged to help Buiebi Jail in Mendi, Southern Highlands, with a vehicle so they can attend to administration issues and maintain normal operations, says a senior prison officer.
Jail commander Supt Samson Kisa said they depended on support from the two provincial governments because the only vehicle they had depended on was taken by armed men from his residence on Oct 9.
He said the jail served prisoners from the two provinces, but without a vehicle, it would make operations difficult.
Kisa said around 60 prisoners were from Hela and more than 70 from Southern Highlands.
He said he was home with his children when armed men surrounded his house and robbed the vehicle around 3am.
He described it as one of his worst experiences because any armed group would not enter a CIS, police or defence force compound.
Kisa also wanted the two governors- William Powi (Southern Highlands) and Philip Undialu (Hela)- to address the concern.
“This will affect the jail’s operation because this was the only vehicle that was used to run the operation with the administration,” he said.
