THE Buimo Prison Correctional Services has so far raised K9,900 in fundraising activities to renovate its church building.
Buimo prisoners reintegration coordinator Mason Mai said prison officers, families and inmates earlier this month hosted a thanksgiving day which they raised K3,200.
He said they raised another K4,700 during an outreach programme and received a contribution of K2,000 from the Cassowary Road United church.
“So far funds raised through the outreach programme and the thanksgiving day now stands at K9,900,” he said.
“Our appeal to other churches in the city please do come and give support to the inmates for the renovation of the church building.
“The church was built in 1985 and after three decades had not gone through any renovations.
“Your support will go a long way to bring a mindset change to the inmates and make them better people when they complete their term in prison and return to their families and communities.”
Mai said their target was K40,000, which they needed to meet before August.
He said those who wanted to support the drive can contact Sergeant Arnold Juwai on 7176 9129 or himself on 7022 3523.
