SOUTH Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu recently met the business community in Buin to discuss how to build partnerships and networks for the development of the town and district.
Masiu said it was important to advise the business community of his development plans and how they could contribute.
“Buin is headed for important development and you must be ready to catch it. I am anticipating an economic boom and whatever decision I take will benefit you,” he said.
“So I ask you to open up. You can start by making your shopfronts beautiful and attractive and build picket fences,” he said.
Masiu said his declaration of 2018 as the “year of action” meant he would work to lift the image of Buin town.
He said the town will host an important conference in April or May this year which will attract between 400 to 500 visitors to Buin. He said the conference will present major challenges to the business community in the provision of accommodation, catering and in ensuring their shops adequately cater for the needs of the visitors. “The conference will be an opportunity to grow our local economy,” he said.
