BULOLO district in Morobe has reported 20 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) with one death, following a church conference in Mumeng.
District health manager Logan Yakam said the national pastoral conference was held in Mumeng two weeks ago. “We have 13 reported cases at Bulolo hospital and another seven at the Mumeng health centre,” he said.
“Of the 13 Bulolo, one died while another was referred to the Angau hospital for further treatment.
“We are expecting a further surge in the cases in the district and so are asking that people developing symptoms to come quickly for checks and be vaccinated.”
He said people in the district should know that they must be vaccinated to stop community transmission.
“The virus is here to stay and can kill if we are not careful,” he said.
“Many people coming forward to be vaccinated are public servants and people employed by companies.
“The main concern is that the public need to adhere to the health advices given by the authorities and follow all the protocols to be on the safe side. Better still, get vaccinated.” He said the district would struggle if it faced an increase in the cases in the near future as it did not have the capacity to cater for everyone.
