Bumayong turning into cowboy town

The National, Monday 13th Febuary 2012

LAST Tuesday, around midday, one of Lae’s top cops was held up on the road next to Bumayong Secondary School.
Raskols, armed with a home-made shot gun and pistol, held up the officer, who was in his brand new 4×4 vehicle.
The raskols relieved the officer of his personal belongings and cash on the good part of the road, where any driver would have stepped on the accelerator and run down the hooligans.
As a law abiding resident of Bumayong, this incident was an eye-opener for me.
Now that the officer has had a run-in with the raskols, I hope the police will do something as this place does not have the presence of the law.
Marijuana and homebrew are consumed openly, while physical and verbal harassment is part of life here.
The youths can be seen walking around with their firearms, just like in western movies, making Bumayong a cowboy town.
The once famed Kanda police and those responsible for law and order here have disappeared.
As a taxpayer, I expect at least some law and order on the roads of Lae.
