THE National Narcotics Bureau will extend its drug awareness and education training programmes nationwide.

National Narcotics Bureau  director-general John Mapusa said a partnership with all government agencies and the local community was  important in addressing drug and alcohol abuse.

He launched a two-week leaders workshop for the Moresby South electorate in Port Moresby on drug education and personal development.

“This is the first initiative.

“We will go nationwide but our office is understaffed and under-funded,” Mapusa said.

The workshop is jointly funded by Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko and the bureau.

Mapusa gave K20,000 to the workshop conveners

including senior officers

Peter Kila-Pat and John Mark.

The participants will be taught drug awareness and education programmes, ways to prevent people from abusing marijuana and homebrew, rehabilitation of addicts, negative consequences of illicit drug and alcohol and other bad effects.

The participants include LLG councillors, presidents, police officers and women and youth groups from Badili, Kaugere, Kila Kila, Sabama, Pari and the Moresby South electorate in NCD.

Badili police station commander Snr Sgt Bill Werake thanked the participants for joining hands to weed out marijuana abuse in the electorate.
