Burgess, Diro gets Chief tittle

CITIZENS from various sectors of the society have been recognised for their distinguished services to the country. 

They were awarded with Logohu medals at Government House in Port Moresby yesterday.

The awards came in two parts with the order of PNG 2013 New Year’s Honours and Awards Investiture and supplementary for outstanding recipients.

Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio officiated at the ceremony.   

Among the recipients, two were invested with the insignia of the Grand Companion of Order of Logohu with the title Chief (GCL).

Rev. Anthony Burgess was awarded for service to the Catholic church and the community through his pastoral work and delivery of social services over many years a priest and more recently as Bishop of the Wewak Diocese in East Sepik. 

Edward (Ted) Diro was awarded for his service to the community, his leadership in the formative years of the PNG Defence Force, serving as its first post independence commander, and as member of the national parliament, leader of the opposition and minister of state, including as deputy prime minister.

The Logohu award is a PNG-owned national honours and awards system known as The Orders of Papua New Guinea, established on Aug 23, 2005 by authority of the Queen.
