THE recent burning of vehicles and district administration building at Gembogl Station in Chimbu will not deter the flow of basic goods and services, Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Willie Gogl Ongugo says.
The newly built sub-district administration building was burnt down last week. The building housed government sector offices like agriculture, commerce, community development and law and justice, and Bank South Pacific (BSP).
Ongugo said he would ensure basic services to the people were maintained.
“My people need services of good roads, bridges, markets for agricultural products, health, education and the list goes on,” he said.
“I will make sure the people continue to have access to basic services despite what had happened.”
“The arson is the work of a minority group, maybe with self-interest, and I condemn the action in the strongest term possible.”
Ongugo appealed to the people of three tribes of Gembogl – the Inagugl, Mauglaugl and Kuglkane to remain calm.
Former Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Chief Wagi Merimba condemned the burning down of the building.
He said the people of Gembogl were known for being peace-loving.
Chimbu police commander Superintendent Jacob Singura has ordered that investigations start.
