WHILE the Madang town bus stop and its adjoining streets are getting a facelift, garbage disposals seem to be a major hurdle for the urban local level government.

Many residents are complaining about the lack of garbage bins in the area.

Town administrator Lawrence Pitor, who initiated a cleanathon  last year, indicated that garbage disposal bins would be provided but that is yet to be seen.

Deputy mayor Chris Tomongo said the drums were  at a  workshop since last year waiting to be painted.

The council has not installed bins around town since last year.

Lydia Job, from Furan village and a vendor at the main town market, said the market area was an eye-sore and a disgusting sight. Rubish was heaped all over the town.

“If the town council can see the efforts of youths engaged in cleaning the town then they will obviously see that there is a need for rubbish drums,” she said.
