BUSINESS communities are always on hand when there is a need to support the work of police in maintaining law and order, according to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Mamose Chief Supt Nema Mondia.

He also praised business communities in the region for supporting the work of police.

Mondia said this when he visited Ramu Agri-Industries Ltd (RAIL) early this week and saw the volume of support it had provided over the years to ensure Ramu police were operational in the “sugar valley” in Madang.

RAIL produces the popular Ramu sugar brand.

“Ramu Agri-Industries has been very supportive of our police in the valley, “ Mondia said.

“It is this kind of service that has seen police continuously providing the much needed service.

“I really commended them for their previous supports in terms of fuel, refurbishing police houses and even making available their houses for our officers.”

He said the company had been working in collaboration with  police to ensure the valley was a peaceful place to work and live and this has seen reduced in major crimes although there were pockets of petty crimes which were contained by police on a daily basis.

The Momase police chief was in Ramu to meet with the RAIL management and the magisterial services and introduce to them the new police station commander, Senior Sgt Peter Gorek, the outgoing officer in-charge of the community policing unit in Lae, Morobe.

Outgoing Ramu police commander Insp Yonga Yongawen has been elevated to rural coordinator for Madang police.
