THE business community will be a key stakeholder in improving safety in Moresby South that will focus on residential areas, settlements and the Central Business District.
Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko said his electorate was home to the largest corporations in the country and that they were keen on partnering in this initiative.
“At the recent induction of Badili Police Station commander, I was very pleased to see a dozen senior executives of the business community in Moresby-South there with intent to work side-by-side with police in the electorate,” he told The National.
“Our electorate has one of the largest business communities based there.
“They will form a big part of the programme to make it safe, not only for residents but also for businesses to operate in a conducive environment.
“When it comes to the issue of making our electorate safe, we will be calling on all residents, villages and Central Business District as they all have their part to play.
“The settlements, of course, will be treated differently when it comes to policing.
“The business community also wants to contribute financially and in kind to help assist police to ensure there is a constant police presence.”
Apec Minister Tkatchenko said safety issues were made more pressing with the electorate to play a pivotal hosting role in the event.
“We have to make sure that our people are aware of what is going on, that our police understand their roles and are prepared for this,” he said.
“This will also involve bringing the business community on board to assist where they can and also so their operations are not impacted.”
